Sign Up for Emergency Notifications from the City of Houston

When emergencies occur, staying informed is key to making sure that you and your loved ones stay safe.

The City of Houston, in partnership with the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network (GHC 911) offers a variety of tools to help keep you informed.  In order to ensure you receive every alert, people who live, work or study in Houston are encouraged to sign up for BOTH of the following systems.

Ways you will receive alerts:
  • E-Mail Messages
  • Social Media Messages
  • SMS (Text) Message Notifications
  • Automated Phone Calls (Reverse 9-1-1)
    • Landlines
    • Mobile Phones
    • Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Phones
Agencies who issue these alerts: These alerts are issued by the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management. These alerts are issued by emergency management, law enforcements and fire service agencies throughout Harris & Fort Bend Counties, including the City of Houston. 
When these alerts are sent: When emergencies are wide-spread and impact the either large portions of the City or all of Houston. This includes hurricanes, severe weather warnings, City closures etc... When emergencies affect a specific area, such as a neighborhood.  This would include chemical or hazardous materials releases, local area (neighborhood) evacuations, dangerous suspects etc.
People these alerts are intended for: Registration is intended for people who live, work, or study in the City of Houston. Registration is open to anyone who lives in a community that is wholly or partially in Fort Bend or Harris Counties.
