1. Find Out What Could Happen To You

  • Contact your local Emergency Management office (be prepared to take notes!)
  • Ask what types of disasters are most likely to happen.
  • Request information on how to prepare
  • Learn the warning systems for your community
    • What do they sound like?
    • What should you do when you hear them?
  • Ask about animal care for pets during disasters
  • Ask how to help elderly or disabled persons
  • Learn the disaster plans for you workplace, yours children's schools (or daycare), and other places where your family spends time.
